The Minister of Loneliness

Cast: 2-3. The Minister of Loneliness can be played by anyone.
It's an almost-solo show, with one actor on stage, one off, and a black sheet that changes form.
"Do you ever feel so lonely you want to rip off your own face, just to look at it?"
The Minister of Loneliness has made themself the loneliest person in the world to advocate for loneliness and lonely people. Unfortunately, the actual job is to eliminate loneliness completely. And now, the government has caught on and has created a test; subjecting the Minister to the worst torture there is in order to keep the job.
The Minister of Loneliness must put on a play today, right now. If it fails, they will lose everything they've worked for. A play about accepting loneliness while fighting for connection.
This script was first developed as part of CircleX Theatre's Evolving Playwrights Group, which culminated in a public reading directed by Jennifer Chambers.
